Amalie is Six!
Back in the spring of 2006, Jesy and I were becoming quite disheartened because baby #2 was no where in sight. That May, my sister Tara had a trip planned to Jerusalem, Isreal, and before she left she asked if she could say any prayers for me at the Wailing Wall. Of course, I told her to pray for a second Yeates baby. Three weeks later I knew Amalie was coming. Imagine my great happiness that we were able to take Amalie (and the other children) to Jerusalem for her sixth birthday. The above two pictures are Amalie in front of the Wall, which I like to think of as her "starting point". What a great way to start!
I will never, ever forget the day Amalie was born. Dr.Borne, my wonderful Cajun doctor, kept on telling me "Just another minute and we'll have a baby". He must have said this about 10 times and I was getting super antsy because we did not know the sex of the baby. Finally I felt the tugging and pressure (if you've ever had a c-section you know that this means the baby is coming out) and Dr.Borne said "It's a girl!" My heart was so full at that moment that I thought it might burst. I remember looking at Jesy and crying over and over "it's a girl. A girl!" First Colin, and now my sweet Amalie Elizabeth. How blessed were we.
Two funny stories: Jesy was quite surprised when the nurses asked what we were going to name our baby, and I said Amalie Elizabeth. He thought I was going with another name and was quite surprised to know I had changed my mind. I am glad he agreed to Amalie!
The nurses wrapped Amalie up and allowed Jesy to bring her out to see my mom, sister Suzanne, and Colin, who were waiting in the family room. Colin's first reaction to seeing his baby sister? "She has no hands, she has no hands!". Amalie was swaddled up tight, but Jesy took out her hands and tried to calm Colin down. It didn't work because then he got upset that she had no feet. After Jesy unwrapped Amalie completely Colin was able to calm down and enjoy his first sibling.
My life is better because you are here Amalie. You were the sweetest baby, and you are such a lovely little girl. You work so hard at school and are a little helper at home, but you also find time to laugh and giggle with me.
We all love you so much! Thank you Tara, the Wailing Wall, and a wonderful God for bringing this six year old into our lives. Happy Birthday!
